VISIT
PLEASE NOTE, WE ARE NOW CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC FOR THE WINTER SEASON. WE WILL RE-OPEN FOR SNOWDROP WALKS IN FROM 9TH FEBRUARY 2025.
Hedingham Castle is the most iconic of all East Anglian fortresses commanding Essex for nine centuries
Enjoy entry to the historic gardens and Castle of Hedingham. Immerse yourself in the beautiful nature and history of the estate, explore the Norman Keep, bring a picnic and make a day of it. Well behaved dogs on leads are also welcome, however they are not permitted inside the Castle.
Visit the Keep Tearoom which has seating indoors as well as takeaway options, serving hot and cold drinks and light refreshments. We recommend booking your tickets online in advance but they can also be purchased on the gate on the day (card payment only).
If you have a Historic Houses membership or another discount card for entry, we do still require you to book your ticket for the day you would like to visit, to allow us to monitor numbers. For HHA members, please select the HHA ticket option using the booking form above, click through to choose your preferred date and process your tickets - we will then need to see your HHA membership card on arrival to admit free entry.
The Estate
Hedingham Castle is part of Historic Houses.
Historic Houses are worth joining. Like the National Trust and English Heritage, Historic House members can enter FREE for our normal open days. These houses have a special and unique atmosphere because they are Beautiful, Lived-in, Diverse, and Local. Visit them and discover for yourself.
Click here to join and use the offer code HED161 at the checkout to get £5 off your membership fee.

Access to the Castle, and within it, involves steep stairs so is unsuitable for prams and wheelchairs. Some parts of the grounds present varying degrees of difficulty for those with mobility issues, but there are easy, accessible walks for all. View full Accessibility Statement here.
Dogs
Dogs are very welcome within the grounds, except on Event days. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and are not permitted in the Castle itself.

The Tea Room is located inside the Castle on the first floor which is accessed only via steps. It is open for takeaway and sitting inside, serving hot and cold drinks and light snacks including cakes and crisps.
Cash
We only take card on the gate and in the Tea Room. We recommend that tickets for Garden & Castle admission are purchased online ahead of arrival.
